Reflection #5 9/23/10

WHAT:
Today on class we learned about vidcasts. We discussed what they are, what they can be used for, and then our assignment in which we are to make our own vidcasts for student teaching.

SO WHAT:
Vidcasts are fun for entertainment, not only for in your free time but also educationally. Over the past several weeks, I have been doing lesson presentations in class and we have been using different youtube videos for the "engaging" and "attention catching" opening. I think that using the vidcasts like this is very beneficial because it adds to the presentations etc. With more practice, I would like to start making my own videos for class projects/presentation in effort to make it more personal and more specific to what I'm trying to portray. I like the idea of vidcasts and I plan on using it a lot more in my future education classes.

NOW WHAT:
The concepts of vidcasts, I believe, will be essential to use in my future classroom. We are entering a world that is so dependent on electronics and kids are drawn in by videos and hands on things, they can't just get lectured to death. I want to make my classroom a good learning environment and I feel that a major key to that is simply making learning fun. If a child enjoys being there they will be more comfortable and able to learn. Vidcasts can get students excited to do upcoming projects and help them be interested in a specific subject. I plan on using them a lot, and I plan to try and have the students make they're own when it applies.
