Reflection #3 9/9/10

WHAT:
Today in class we learned how to make our own webpage. First we created the page and then added tabs such as a calendar, homework, etc. as if it were for our classroom.

SO WHAT:
There are many benefits to using this in my life today, the biggest reason for me personally is simply having another place to store my "key assignments". I hear over and over again about how we need to keep them in 5 different places. The great thing about this is they are all organized and available to me at any instance. I also like how I use it in lesson planning right now for student teaching. By having the different files and folders on my web page, I can resource all of the supplies I want to use and have them all on hand. This is SO helpful with the issue of flash drives.

NOW WHAT:
Along with the immediate benefits, there are also a lot of benefits with this in my teaching career. By having the ability to make and easily update a web page, I can help my students and their parents in knowing what is going on (or going to happen) in the classroom. As a child, I always traveled and although I was a strait A student, I missed a lot of school. By having a classroom web page, I can save students and parents the hassle of finding out what they missed or if they have all of the homework. It is all accessible to them and if there is any questions, they can simply meet with or contact me for any clarifications. If they lose my info, its all on the site. I just think that this is a huge deal in making parents more comfortable and trusting towards teachers. I want close relationships with my students and their parents and I am excited to try this out in my future classroom.
