WHAT:
Today in class we learned about the use of Podcasts in the world and then specifically in the classroom. We then were given the task of making a school public announcement in the form of a podcast.
SO WHAT:
It has amazed me over the past few weeks of being in the program just how useful a podcast can be in school currently. Honestly, I'd probably use vidcasts more, but I could definitely use podcasts too. I have been given lesson teaching assignment after lesson teaching assignment. In a lesson about the 50 states, I could use the animaniacs 50 states and capitals song to help them remember (or even help me). Podcasts can just add so much more interest in a subject. I also could use podcasts for notes or things like that, that way I wouldn't have to scribble down notes as my professor is talking at the speed of lightning. Basically, I really want to start using it more in my own school experience.
NOW WHAT:
When it comes to the concept of my future classroom, I will definitely be using podcasts in my teaching. When I was young we were taught the "school rocks-preamble song" and it still to this day gets stuck in my head. I want my students to remember concepts that they're taught, and if podcasts can aid in that then I will use them. Learning should be fun, learning should be memorable, and I truly believe that if I add different activities and genres such--such as podcasts--then I just might d a better job at accomplishing that. One more thing that podcasts can do is help parents know whats going on. Yes typing out a paper that says everything that will be going on in a event works...but it's not near as interesting. The concept of a public announcement is a great idea in my opinion, not to mention its even fun for me to make. Talk about a win-win situation! Our future is turning totally electronic and I really want to do what I can to help the kids REALLY learn, and I believe this is a key way to accomplishing that task.
